This program offers two tracks of study. Track I: Dietetics provides education for persons desiring a career in foods and nutrition who wish to complete coursework necessary for pursuing the Registered Dietitian credential,. Track I also allows students to complete the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) as part of their coursework, which is required to seek the Registered Dietitian credential. Completion of Track I and the associated DPD, followed by a dietetic internship and completion of a master’s degree, enables one to sit for the examination leading to registered dietitian (RD) status. The Didactic Program in Dietetics at Northwest is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 120 South Riverside, Plaza Suite 2190, Chicago, IL 60606, (312) 899-0400, ext. 5400. Track II: General offers a degree in foods and nutrition for students who do not wish to seek the Registered Dietitian credential.

Free electives as needed to reach minimum 120 graduation hours


Students majoring in Foods and Nutrition must earn a grade of C or above in all courses required for the major.

Note: If ANY courses in the requirements for this major are also used to fulfill a Northwest Core or Institutional Requirement, the number of credit hours may be counted only once toward the total number of credit hours required for graduation.
