The Master of Science in Education degree with a concentration in Teaching Secondary Agricultural Education is available for those pursuing a career in teaching. This program is particularly adapted to the needs of agricultural education teachers who embark upon a graduate program. The student continues the development of their professional educational background while concentrating on their area of specialization in agriculture. The graduate study will improve the qualifications and capabilities of the students, provide opportunity for independent study and investigation, and provide the necessary education for graduate students to enter further advanced degree programs. Students must meet the requirements of the School of Education in addition to the requirements of the School of Agricultural Sciences. Program Admission Requirements
- To apply for this program, you must meet these requirements:
Cumulative GPA of 2.75 on the undergraduate transcript OR an undergraduate overall GPA of 2.50 to 2.74 with a 3.0 GPA in the first six hours of graduate study at Northwest in the major where admission is requested
- Documentation of ONE of the following:
Valid teaching certificate or two years prior to teaching with a valid teaching certificate,
Successful completion of nationally normed educational performance assessment (MEES, EdTPA, etc.),
Successful completion of master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with at least a 2.75 GPA,
School analytical writing assessment that is evaluated using a writing scoring guide based on the modified CUNY scales with a score of 4.0 or higher,
3.5 or higher on the analytical writing measure of the GRE®,

Accelerated B.S. to M.S. Program:
This program allows outstanding students to concurrently pursue a comprehensive Bachelor of Science in Education degree in Agricultural Education Secondary Program (Certifies Grades 9-12) and a Master of Science in Education in Teaching: Secondary Agricultural Education to complete graduation requirements for both degrees within a shortened period for both degrees at Northwest Missouri State University. The M.S.Ed program in Teaching: Secondary Agricultural Education at Northwest requires 30 credit hours of graduate courses. The accelerated B.S.Ed./M.S.Ed. program allows undergraduate students to complete a maximum of 15 credit hours of graduate coursework in their junior and senior years. These courses count toward both their B.S.Ed. and M.S.Ed. degrees. The remaining 15 hours of graduate coursework are then completed after completion of the Bachelors degree.
Admission Requirements for Accelerated B.S.Ed. to M.S.Ed. program:
The undergraduate B.S.Ed. Agricultural Education Secondary Program coordinator will review the application to assess each applicant’s eligibility.
Student must be currently pursuing a B.S.Ed. Agricultural Education at Northwest or transferring into this program from another accredited institution within the United States.
- A student must apply for admission to the program no sooner than the end of their sophomore year (graded courses up to a total of 60 hours) and no later than the beginning of their first semester of the senior year (graded courses up to a total of 60 hours) of the undergraduate program.
- Students must submit their transcripts and a letter of recommendation from their undergraduate Agricultural Education program coordinator to the Graduate School.
- The student must also satisfy one of the following GPA criteria (as calculated on a 4.0 scale)
- Overall GPA >= 2.75
- Major GPA >= 2.50
- Applicants must satisfy these criteria at the beginning of their graduate studies:
- Compliance with all the eligibility requirements of the Graduate School as outlined in the Graduate Catalog.
- Compliance with all admission requirements for acceptance into the Master of Science in Education in Teaching: Secondary Agricultural Education.
- Must have achieved a “C” or better in all of the Professional Education courses as outlined by the undergraduate catalog.
Advising for courses in the Junior and Senior years:
- A student can enroll in graduate courses only after their sophomore year (60 graded hours)
- The student’s undergraduate academic advisor, program coordinator and graduate coordinator will assist the student in developing a plan for enrolling in classes to complete both degrees within a five-year time frame
