To apply for this program, you must meet these requirements:
- Cumulative GPA of 2.75 on the undergraduate transcript OR an undergraduate overall GPA of 2.50 to 2.74 with a 3.0 GPA in the first eight semester hours of graduate study at Northwest in the major where admission is requested
- Cumulative GPA of 2.75 on the undergraduate transcript OR an undergraduate overall GPA of 2.50 to 2.74 with a 3.0 GPA in the first six semester hours of graduate study at Northwest in the major where admission is requested
- Documentation of ONE of the following:
- Valid teaching certificate or two years prior to teaching with a valid teaching certificate
- Successful completion of nationally normed educational performance assessment (MEES, EdTPA, etc.)
- Successful completion of master’s degree from a institutionally accredited institution with at least a 2.75 GPA
- School analytical writing assessment that is evaluated using a writing scoring guide based on the modified CUNY scales with a score of 4.0 or higher
- 3.5 or higher on the analytical writing measure of the GRE®
- National Board Certification
Extra Requirements:
- To meet exit comprehensive requirements, students are required to complete an assessment of Competency Mastery. The assessment will include a reference to artifact/course content, and reflection/video submission on a culmination of student learning and personal growth as an early childhood advocate and leader. The culmination assessment will be administered during EDCI 62630 - Field Experience in Early Childhood
- A research component form must be turned in to the Graduate Office prior to graduation

Course Requirements
This program is designed for students who wish to gain advanced training in the specialized field of early childhood education for children from birth to age eight. Subject Field Requirements (21)
Total Credit Hours: 30
The M.S.Ed. in Teaching Early Childhood does not lead to certification in Early Childhood Education. Individuals interested in obtaining initial certification should see their content advisor and University certification officer for additional course requirements. |
