EDCI 62446 - Trauma-Informed Practices and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy Credit Hours: 3 This course is designed to emphasize and inform candidates on the importance of understanding trauma and the prevalence of trauma in the school system. Candidates will gain knowledge of adverse childhood experiences and understand the negative impact of trauma on development and behavior, specifically brain development. This course explores the intersection of executive functioning, self-regulation, and coping processes in individuals impacted by trauma. Candidates will examine trauma through the lens of epigenetics and generational trauma. This course will inform candidates on how to identify appropriate strategies to support young children’s social-emotional learning. Candidates will identify and evaluate community resources and multidisciplinary supports for children and families affected by trauma.
