EDCI 62435 - Practicum: Primary Classrooms

Credit Hours: 3
Practicum: Primary Classrooms is designed to enable students to apply theoretical knowledge of pedagogical principles and developmentally appropriate practices in a primary classroom. This integrated experience is supported by information gained through co-requisite coursework focusing on integrated curriculum planning, methods, strategies, assessment, and an understanding of whole child development. Candidates will develop and emerge with a unique professional style of teaching, and strengthen their practice through a continuous cycle of applying what they learn through coursework, reflecting on what they do and how children respond, as well as grow professionally to be reflective practitioners. Candidates will also engage in reflection and application of classroom management theories, considering how different theoretical perspectives inform interactions, routines, and expectations in primary learning settings. Building on these frameworks, the course integrates Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) as a proactive, relationship-based approach to fostering children’s social-emotional competence and creating inclusive classroom communities.

Typically Offered: FA, SP
