EDCI 62304 - Practicum: Early Learning


Credit Hours: 3
Candidates will participate in supervised field experiences with toddlers, two-year-olds, and preschool children in a Reggio Emilia classroom environment. The course explores the Reggio Emilia philosophy with a focus on the provocation process as a framework for designing developmentally appropriate learning experiences. Candidates will strengthen their understanding of the importance of using observation, documentation, and reflection to plan and implement intentional provocations which spark inquiry, creativity, and critical thinking in young children. The course introduces candidates to Conscious Discipline, an evidence-based approach to classroom management and social-emotional learning. Through practical application, candidates will explore strategies and understand the adults’ role in supporting children’s social and emotional growth. Candidates will reflect on professional dispositions, meet regularly with cooperating teachers and professor to set personal goals for the course.
