EDCI 62302 - Early Childhood Developmental Foundations


Credit Hours: 3
This course allows candidates to reflect on the meaning of early childhood and provides an in-depth exploration of the development of the whole child, focusing on the interconnected domains of physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and language development from birth - age eight. Candidates will examine theories of development and reflect on biological, educational, environmental, cultural, and familial influences that contribute to children’s growth and learning. Candidates will examine the critical role movement has in young children’s learning and development. Through hands-on experiences, candidates will learn to design and implement movement-based learning opportunities that foster coordination, creativity, problem-solving, self-regulation, and brain development and recognize movement as a powerful pathway to learning. Through classroom observation and analysis, candidates will develop an individual pedagogy that reflects their personal teaching philosophy.
